Our poor little David is having some serious tummy trouble! We really starting noticing signs of trouble in early October. In the time between his 21 month and 2 year well check he lost a couple of pounds, he was constantly pale and began vomiting every 3/4 days. Our pediatrician asked us to make a food journal to see if we noticed a pattern of particular foods causing the vomiting and scheduled a weight check for a month later. Well... the next week we found ourselves having blood work done to check for anemia or a virus of some sort but his results came back normal. So... we made an appointment to meet with an allergist for a couple of weeks later as well as an appointment with a Gastroentrologist(sp) for Feb. but decided to take him off all dairy and eggs for a week each in the meantime. I was pretty confident that he had developed an allergy to eggs but the allergist said he had no food allergies. WHAT!! The following day was the weight check with the Pediatrician at which point he ordered another blood sample as well as a stool sample to check for Ghiardia and celiac disease. When the results came back from those tests the gluten count found in his blood was like 226 when the normal count is below 20.We were so relived to finally have a reason for all his tummy trouble that the next step was to schedule an Upper Endoscopy to find out for sure what we were dealing with. Which bring us to yesterday. He wasn't allowed to eat for 6\8 hours prior which meant by the time we got to the hospital he was ballistic. He kept saying I want Kennedy!, so sweet right? 45 minutes and a couple of doses of versed(sp) they finally got him knocked out and ready for the biopsy. That in of itself didn't take very long and all went smooth (thank you all for you prayers and concern). the physician was able to get a couple of different samples that he was pleased about and we should get those results by Tuesday. So what exactly am i saying? In short our little guy has Celiac disease. what is that you might ask? It is autoimmune deficiency. his body can't process the gluten found in wheat and flour. So our cracker loving, cereal monster won't be able to eat any of his favorite things. And that my friends brings you all up to speed with David.
here are a few picture from yesterday!
On our way to the Hospital.

Those pics are so sad! I'm glad they finally found what the problem is... poor guy.
Poor little guy! I'll keep him in my prayers.
That is rough! I'm glad they were able to figure out what he had. My mom actually can't eat any gluten either. There are some great websites with gluten free recipes. I'll email them to you.
Oh no! I'm so sorry! But it has got to be good to know what is wrong and what you can do, now!
Sad!! I am sorry you had to go through all of that. Julie's husband has celiec and is diabetic, so she has a fun time cooking. Have a Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the update, we've been wondering. A friend of ours has celiec and after trying for like 8 years she is finally pregnant. Yeah! I keep meaning to ask if she has any good food ideas or suggestions. I'll let ya know.
oh my GOSH those pictures break your heart!
Keep us updated!
Poor sweet Bubba,as time goes on he and Grandpa Dan will be able to complain about the 'what we can't eat' things. Not something anyone wants to have in common with anyone else.
Poor little guy! I have a couple of friends with celiac. Wild Oats Market has some crackers and cereal that is gluten free I know. There are also some crackers at Costco that my one friend used to get that were particularly good. I'm sure it'll be an adjustment for all of you, but I'm thankful they found the problem. We love and pray for you guys!
There's something about when a baby or child is sick or stuggling I see a lot of response in the comments. Regular blogging I see a few. Most people can relate to sick kids and we all want to rally round the families. It's heart breaking sometimes. Lacey's husband Chris got a call while in Utah over Chtistmas that his 3 yr. old neice was in ICU because she couldn't get oxygen to her lungs. She had tubes all over her and down her nose. They didn't think she was going to make it. Tammy seldom gets comments on her bloggs, however I notice that when she blogged about little Maggie, comments came out of the wood work. like this blogg. It lets you know that you are loved. We love our kids so much don't we? Hope he is OK.
We love Bubba, I'm glad he can get help BEFORE he learns how freakin' awesome pizza is.
